ON WEEKNIGHTS, THIS NONDESCRIPT NEIGHBORHOOD BAR IS USUALLY EMPTY SAVE A FEW LOCALS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE INCREDIBLY CHEAP BEER, BUT WEEKENDS AT TOMMY'S TAVERN HAVE BEEN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY. THANKS TO A COUPLE OF WELL-CONNECTED PROMOTERS, UP-AND-COMING UNDERGROUND DJ's AND BANDS, AND THE AMBITIONS OF THE BAR'S OWNER TO RIDE THE WAVE OF GENTRIFICATION CRASHING OVER THIS PART OF BROOKLYN, THIS FORMER 'OLD MAN' BAR HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED INTO THE FREQUENT SITE OF A HIP, DEBAUCHEROUS LATE-NIGHT DANCE PARTY. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THE SMALL BACKROOM COULD ACCOMMODATE SO MANY SWEATY, TRENDY, GOOD-LOOKING HIPSTERS, BUT WHEN THE MUSIC STARTS BLASTING AND THE CRAZY LIGHT SHOW BEGINS, NO ONE SEEMS TO MIND THE CLOSE QUARTERS OR OUT-OF-THE-WAY LOCATION.
